The fowler has French influenced furniture with a Dutch influenced buttstock shape. This smoothbore was made by Jackie Brown, with a aged patina finish. Stocked in maple with brass trim, this gun features an L&R flintlock. The trigger reach is 13-3/4" to fit a today's average size shooter. Overall weight of the gun is 7.8 pounds.

The 20 gauge octagon-to-round barrel is 46" length. The octagon portion is 12", with a single wedding band transition to round. The .625" bore appears bright, but does leave some discoloration on a cleaning patch when run up and down the bore. A small nickel silver turtle front sight is mounted 2" behind the muzzle. The top flat is signed J. Brown. The barrel is finished to a brown with some graying patina from use.

Stocked in maple, the stock has a hand finished appearance that compliments the look of the metal patina. The buttstock does have a rather unusual appearance with a Dutch club butt musket design with a much longer wrist. The wide flat buttplate will help spread the felt recoil over a large area. The buttplate, lock, triggerguard, sideplate, and ramrod pipes are made of brass with a mellow patina. The trigger guard is surfaced mounted and retained with two screws in the rear and pinned in the front. The triggerguard has a French style lug for a swivel. The forward swivel is mounted to rest against the middle ramrod pipe. Both swivels are as cast, and do not have the casting gate removed. The wooden ramrod passes through two brass pipes with no ramrod entry pipe fitted. The ramrod is fitted with an brass tip threaded to accept 8-32 cleaning and loading accessories. The brass sideplate is surface mounted to retain the two lock bolts.

This smoothbore is fitted with an L&R flintlock with early style banana shaped lock plate and no exterior pan bridle that would be circa 1750 to 1760 era. The frizzen face has typical marks from firing, and the lock has some scattered patina from use. This lock has a sturdy mainspring, and spark very well. Be sure to order a dozen of our best 7/8" French gun flints, #FLINT-AMBER-7. Trigger release is smooth and light, due to the high leverage trigger geometry. The direct drilled touch hole is centered and positioned correctly with the pan. The barrel is counter sunk around the touch hole to bring the heat from the flash closer to the main charge for faster ignition.

Offered in used condition, the design of this smoothbore may not be for everyone. The smoothbore has a hand finished appearance with aged patina.
