This sleek Hatfield percussion longrifle is .50 caliber, with 39" octagon barrel, iron front sight, semi buckhorn rear sight, and color case hardened lock. Stocked in maple, with subtle figure from muzzle to butt, this fullstock longrifle is stained to deep reddish brown, and trimmed in brass. This rifle is well used with many marks on the stock and barrel finish. The polished brass furniture has become tarnished from handling and long storage. Made for a tall man, the trigger reach is 14-1/4", to fit a 6' or taller shooter. Weight is 8 pounds.
The 39" octagon barrel is marked .50 cal and HATFIELD on the top flat. The barrel is polished and finished chocolate brown. The finish has a well used appearance with some handling marks and wear at the breech from firing and cleaning. The factory buckhorn rear sight has been replaced with a semi buckhorn rear sight is positioned 11" ahead of the breech, about 2" behind the balance point, in the location much preferred by older shooters with corrective lenses. The sight base has some orange paint on it. The factory front sight has been replaced with a steel blade finished to a dark blue and has the face of the sight painted orange.
This longrifle's best feature is the attractive maple stock, with a deep reddish tone and smooth factory varnish finish. It has seen considerable use and has many handling marks, some streaks from water with black powder residue. The long sweeping curves the of the buttstock emulate the architecture of rifles from the Lehigh valley. Our bottom view shows the sleek lines of the buttstock and lock panels. The polished brass triggerguard has become tarnished from handling. Surface mounted with a blued steel screw at rear, and a retaining pin at front, the triggerguard has a medium large bow, to accept the double set triggers. Our back view shows the Kentucky rifle style cheek piece, and side panel. No sideplate, toeplate, muzzle cap, or ramrod entry pipe is fitted.
The large rifle size percussion lock is factory engraved HATFIELD and Warranted in bold letters. Color case hardened in mottled colors. The drum is fitted with a steel 1/4-28 threaded nipple. Double lever double set triggers are correctly tuned to fire set or unset. You may cock the lock, or set the triggers, in any sequence. Thus, this rifle will serve you well when hunting big game during very cold weather. A tiny adjustment screw, between the two triggers, controls trigger release. You can set a very light trigger release, ideal for match shooting, or hunting in moderate weather.
This rifle has a well used appearance with many handling marks on the stock and barrel. The bore is bright. Order it for a ten day visual inspection. You will be delighted.
